THE CAST OF

November 6-29, 2009
Kash Goins (John Henry) is a Delaware resident who was born and raised in South Philly as the youngest of five boys. He has always had a penchant for acting and producing plays, evident by the improv skits and impromptu plays he would "produce" on the streets of Point Breeze and Moore with family and friends as a grade school attendant. He didn't pursue his first formal acting experience until he was a sophomore at Lincoln University landing a role as George Murchinson in "Raisin in the Sun". In his very next campus production he landed the lead in RIVER NIGER, a part created by his theatrical idol James Earl Jones. After graduation he was fortunate to gain work as a member of the Freedom Theatre Rep , where he was directed by mentor Walter Dallas in SPARKLE, THE MUSICAL, LAZARUS, UNSTONED, and THE BLUEST EYE. In 2008 Kash founded GoKash Productions and has mounted two plays, the 2009 NYC Downtown Urban Theatre Festival Best Play winner VI DEGREES and the hilarious comedy MAN, I SHOULDA PUT A RING ON IT!. He has also recently been seen as Walter Lee in Stagecrafter’s RAISIN IN THE SUN and Reuben Tate in Allens Lane’s ZOOMAN AND THE SIGN. Kash thanks GOD for continued opportunities for creative expression and is ever so thankful for this magnificent journey with Iron Age!
Jerry Rudasill (Robert) has been a "West Phillystine" since 1995. His second time appearing with Iron Age, he appeared as Othello, Fortinbras, and Benvolio in the 2005 Fringe production of SHAKESPLOITATION. This past year of 2009, he appeared in the world premiere of THE BROTHERS FLANNIGAN at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, the world premiere of THE MEATPACKERS BOOKCLUB with The Philadelphia Theatre Workshop, and a series of one acts with GiRAH productions including POST ITS and THE AUTHOR'S VOICE. In previous years he has played Girard in DEATH & THE MAIDEN, Sgt Match in WHAT THE BUTLER SAW, Feste in 12th NIGHT, the Prince in ROMEOS & JULIET, Touchstone in AS YOU LIKE IT, was an extended ensemble member with The Waitstaff, a local sketch comedy troupe, and is a current display piece at the African American History Museum portraying Bishop Benjamin Tucker Tanner. Richard Bradford Stevens (Laz) is happy to be apart of the premiere of THE LIFE OF JOHN HENRY and help present the back story to the story of perseverance. John Henry laid the tracks for the little engine that could and its a story that relates to my life and many others. If it wasn't for finding Johnny Hobbs at Freedom theatre and pushing myself to grow in other productions such as: DEATH OF THE BLACK JESUS, STREAMERS, TWELFTH NIGHT, RAISIN IN THE SUN, FENCES, A.B.R, ANNA IN THE TROPICS and WIT and many others, I would not be here tonight. Thanks to my FB family for the support and love And to God, with whom I have a special relationship that only he and I can understand and Peace and Toy to my Brighteyed Fans who has always seen the best in me
Maurice Tucker (Willie) Philly born and bred, Maurice found himself at Freedom Theatre one day and grew an interest and appreciation for theatre from there. Some of his previous work included playing as Zooman and Emmett Tate in Charles Fuller’s ZOOMAN AND THE SIGN; also as Diab in an earlier Kash Goins production titled WHO YOU WITH. After time away from the theatre and all of the life experiences that go with it, he embraced the opportunity to play “Rich” in the recent Kash Goins production titled VI DEGREES – and was part of the cast in the award winning performance in the Downturn Urban Theatre Festival in New York City. Maurice feels privileged to be cast in a production that touches on one of the greatest folktales in American History – touching on the concept of man vs. machine and his anxiety with obsolescence.
