Adam Altman (Thomas Paine) is excited to be taking on the challenge of his first one-man show. Previously with Iron Age, Adam has been seen as Dr. Lanyon/Inspector/Student/Hyde in DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, Hamlet/Benvolio in SHAKESPLOITATION!, Father Welsh in THE LONESOME WEST, Estragon in WAITING FOR GODOT, Jack McCall in FATHERS AND SONS, Cripple Billy in THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN and Mairtin Hanlon in A SKULL IN CONNEMARA. Adam holds a B.A. in Theatre Performance from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA and has also studied acting at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. In 2004 Adam received the Peggy Ezekiel Award of Distinction in Undergraduate Student Lighting Design from the USITT for his work on Seton Hill's production of PROOF. Fun Fact: Adam is a direct descendant of founding father and good friend of Thomas Paine - Benjamin Rush. Other recent onstage credits: ROMEO & JULIET, RICHARD III (Delaware Shakespeare Festival); THE FULL MONTY (Montgomery Theater); PURLIE (Ritz Theatre). Up next, see Adam as Sgt. Al Columbato in Iron Age's March/April production of BIRDY, adapted by Naomi Wallace from William Wharton's novel.
Bill Hollenbach has been writing plays since the late 1970’s. Much of his work has a political and social edge. His earliest produced play, The Persecution of Citizen Vasliych, first produced in 1981, examined the relationship of censorship in the Soviet Union and the freedom to report in the United States. The Contestants, an absurd farce, written as a radio play, was the Grand Prize Winner in a national competition at the Midwest Radio Theatre in 1999. Bill returned to social issues in Severed Heads which looked at sixties radicalism through the prism of the French Revolution. It was presented at New Freedom Theatre in March, 2002 and received a Special Opportunity Stipend from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. That grant partially funded Jimmy the D, a farce, produced at the Philly Fringe Festival, by Demo Theatre in September, 2004. His recent play, Inside the Gatehouse, returns to the examination of social issues as four affluent people find themselves trapped inside a gated community by the very forces they thought they had escaped. It was produced by Dayton Playhouse as part of Future Fest ’08 in July. The Dayton Daily News called it the edgiest play of the festival and the Oakwood Register wrote, "Dramatic and forceful. Clever and absorbing. Wow.”
Bill has just completed Citizen Paine, a one man play about Thomas Paine, commissioned by Iron Age Theatre. The play will premiere in January, 2009.
As an actor Bill’s favorite roles include Austin in True West, Cliff Bradshaw in Cabaret, and Peter in The Zoo Story which he has performed several times, including in the first production of Iron Age Theatre in 1988. He has taught theater history, dramatic literature, acting, and theater makeup at Delaware County Community College, Villanova University, and Rosemont College. Bill is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, the Interact Theatre Playwrights Forum, and the Philadelphia Dramatists Center.
